Why I Reorganized My Spice Collection
If you’ve ever found yourself rummaging through mismatched spice jars, squinting at faded labels or repurchasing what you already had this post is for you.
As someone passionate about healthy eating, cooking, and simplifying nutrition, I’ve learned that an organized kitchen = a more confident cook. And today, I’m sharing my spice jar unboxing and filling journey with you plus tips on how to store spices for maximum flavor and nutrition.
What I Used: Glass Spice Jar Set
I picked up this 24-piece glass spice jar set that came with:
- Black lids with airtight seals
- A funnel for mess free filling
- Pre-printed and blank labels
- A pencil to write on labels
Why glass? Glass jars are non toxic, don't absorb odors, and help preserve freshness better than plastic. Plus, they look so aesthetic!
My Go To Healthy Spices
As a Health and Wellness Coach, I always encourage my clients to cook at home and spices are a major key to making healthy meals flavorful without relying on salt, sugar, or fat.
Here are some of my must haves:
- Turmeric : Anti-inflammatory - Use it in curries, soups, smoothies.
- Cinnamon: Helps regulate blood sugar - Use it in oatmeal, coffee, baking.
- Red Chilli Powder: Boosts metabolism, rich in vitamin C - Use it in curries, chili, marinades, sauces.
- Cumin: Aids digestion & metabolism - Use it in beans, rice dishes, curries.
- Garlic Powder: Antimicrobial and heart healthy - Use it in roasted veggies, marinades.
- Paprika: Rich in antioxidants - Use it in stews, rubs, eggs.
- Oregano: Antibacterial & flavorful - Use it in sauces, meats, salads.
- Italian Seasoning: Blend of herbs for heart health - Use it in pasta, roasted dishes.
How I Filled & Labeled My Jars
Here’s how I made the process quick and fun:
- Washed and dried the jars fully before use.
- Used the included funnel to easily transfer spices from bulk bags or store containers.
- Wiped the rims and lids clean to ensure a tight seal.
- Applied pre printed labels but if you’re creative, write your own!
- Stored them in a cabinet or drawer away from heat and light for freshness.
Storage tip: Keep spices in a cool, dry place to prevent loss of flavor and potency.
Why This Matters for Your Health
Healthy eating starts with enjoying your food and spices can help you do just that.
Instead of relying on heavy sauces or excessive salt, herbs and spices:
- Enhance the taste and aroma of whole foods
- Contain powerful phytonutrients and antioxidants
- Encourage you to cook more at home, which supports better nutrition
If you’re building healthier habits, organizing your spice cabinet/drawer might feel like a small win, but it’s a step that can inspire more home cooked meals and better choices throughout the day.
